I have recently bought an off-plan house following a 4 day inspection tour. I appreciate that these are a fairly "hard sell" but on my return to the UK, after leaving a deposit of 2000 Euros, I found that I had been given totally the wrong information.
A month after initially signing the contract, I had to pay 50% of the house price. I was led to believe that the deposit was taken off the first payment of 50%. This was not the case.
I was told that the extra 10%, which included taxes, Solicitorīs fees, etc, would be paid on completion. This was also not true.
I found that I should have been taken to visit the Spanish Solicitor while I was in Spain but I was not taken, presumably because the agent realised that I would be told the correct facts and figures.
Eventually, It was agreed that I should pay the initial figure agreed with the agent, but the Spanish Solicitor is expecting a further 10% and 2000 Euros within 3 months. The person I dealt with in the UK has now left the company so I am now dealing with a new director who does not know the circumstances.
What responsibility do these companies have when their agents in Spain provide wrong financial information, in order to persuade customers to buy? The contract I signed was in Spanish but I was told that was perfectly normal.
